Features and Characteristics:
  • Low birth weight, 5 lbs 8 oz
  • Open hole in back of head, which healed after 6 weeks and is now a round scar with no hair
  • Swallowing problems; better after tonsils were removed at 2 years of age
  • Very sleepy baby; had to wake for feeds
  • Lazy suck
  • Sleep apnea; better after tonsils were removed
  • Hypotonia
  • Epicanthal folds
  • Global delays
  • Poor expressive language skills (but understands everything)
  • Big gap between first and second toes
  • Flat feet
  • Protruding heels
  • Knock kneed
  • Short attention span
  • Dimples in shoulder blades and elbows
  • Flat nasal bridge
  • Low-set ears
  • Drooling; better with age
  • Asthma
  • Eczema
  • Poor teeth (cavities)
  • Long tapered fingers
  • Recurrent ear infections; better after grommets at 2 years of age
  • Constant hair chewing
  • Widely spaced nipples
  • Fine motor skills are okay
  • Sat up alone at 7-8 months
  • Crawled at 10 months
  • Cruised around the furniture at 12 months and finally walked solo at 19 months

Testing with negative results:

  • Chromosome analysis on chromosomes 5, 13, 15, 18 and 21
  • Head ultrasounds
  • Metabolic screening
Features and Characteristics:
  • Global developmental delays
  • Hypotonia
  • Apraxia
  • Hand flapping
  • Poor hand use
  • Tongue protrusion
  • Drooling
  • Constipation
  • Low weight and head circumference
  • Oral sensitivity (gags on textured foods)
  • Sensory integration issues
  • Chews hand
  • High tolerance for discomfort
  • Limited expressive vocabulary - greater receptive vocabulary
  • Mimics non-verbal sounds very well
  • Doesn't communicate needs
  • Extremely sociable
  • Assists in dressing but not feeding

Testing with negative results:

  • MRI
  • Basic metabolic disorders (blood and urine)
  • Chromosomal analysis
  • FISH test for Angelman, Prader-Willi and Williams syndromes
